Topic: February 6th Meeting, Presentation on Arduino and Processing

David Robinson is giving an informal presentation on Arduino and Processing at the meeting. No video projector or anything, just huddling around a table and digging in.  Here's a blurb on Arduino from their website:

Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments.

And here's a blurb from Processing:

Processing is an open source programming language and environment for people who want to program images, animation, and interactions. It is used by students, artists, designers, researchers, and hobbyists for learning, prototyping, and production. It is created to teach fundamentals of computer programming within a visual context and to serve as a software sketchbook and professional production tool. Processing is an alternative to proprietary software tools in the same domain.

Re: February 6th Meeting, Presentation on Arduino and Processing

Since it seems like there are going to be more people than I originally thought there would be at the meeting tonight, we're going to set up a video projector after all.  It'll probably be in the back.

I talked to Michael, owner of Zot'z, yesterday and he was fine with us setting up a projector and even offered to leave one there for us to use.

Also, he manages Cisco Switches at his day job and offered to leave one for us to login to and play with.  I said someone would probably be interested.

See y'all tonight at 6.

Fun meeting - enjoyed it and enjoyed meeting everybody - it's almost a shame to wait another month for the next one.

Re: February 6th Meeting, Presentation on Arduino and Processing

A little wrap-up from Friday

A quick head-count I did at the end told me that we had at least 18 people out there

We had a great presentation on the Arduino and Processing, some discussion of creating a hacker space as suggested by Simon over here. Response seemed very enthusiastic, especially after the interest generated by the presentation.

Thanks to everybody for showing up. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet everybody, I had some pretty fiery ideas for a project of my own that I needed some other minds for. Looking forward to the next meeting, but here's a question: there was a suggestion of moving the meetings to Tulane, where we would have more space and easy access to projectors and other equipment, though it might not provide the atmosphere and refreshments that Z'otz offers. Thoughts?

Those that didn't make it, I'm looking forward to seeing you next month!

i vote we have the meetings at zotz unless we need something for another presentation/demo.  access to caffeine is good, and it might be easier for new comers to find
